What a Drag it is Getting Old
Two things this weekend, one funny and one not.
In 1995, MORE THAN TEN YEARS AGO, Denver's three main TV stations all switched. And I'm sure the main reason for this was that some young whippersnappers thought, "Hey! Let's mess with the old people!"
Before 1995, Channel 9 was ABC, 7 was CBS, and 4 was NBC. Then they mixed it all up, just to fuck with me. You'd think that in twelve years I'd sort it all out but no. Last night, we got home from dinner with friends and I turned on the TV to put on Saturday Night Live. The TV on, I promptly changed the channel to 4. SNL hasn't been on 4 in twelve years. I don't know why I still can't get this right, and more than once I've mis-recorded Lost or another show for exactly the same reason. ::sigh::
On Wednesday I tweaked the hell out of my shoulder. I guess at this stage "tweaked" is a gross understatement. I really fucked my shoulder on Wednesday. It was one of those stupid things we've all done a million times. I was at a stop light and I rolled down the window to whack the accumulating icy snow off the wiper. As the wiper blade tried to go down (it won, by the way), I could feel the pull and then, subsequent agony. I haven't been the same since and it's bloody miserable.
Frustrating because at 20 or 30 I maybe, at the most, would have just irritated the shoulder and then in a day or two it would be fine. But no, this is getting worse daily and my life has become the really fun routine of figuring out which pills I took when, and then icing and heating and stretching. Because we didn't have enough going on right now anyway. This last month has been a roller coaster ride and I'm already worn out with it all.
Thankfully, one of my sisters-in-law is a manual therapist and she was able to work on me a bit on Saturday, but then she suggested that Monday we check my insurance and get in for more treatments. When I said, "Oh, I'm sure I'll be fine by Monday", she gave me one of those polite and professional dismissive looks. She said, "Just call me, okay?"
And crap if she isn't right. Each morning I wake up in the same boat as the day before. I can get it loosened during the day but it's slow and painful and I guess I'll be loading up my walker and my pills and going in for some treatments this week....

I'm feeling it, too. Remember how I dorked up my shoulder pulling a 50 lb bag of dog food out of the back seat of my car a few weeks ago? I listened to the ice and ibuprofen advice and it really did help a lot. I thought I was healed. I'm fine until I try to look over my left shoulder and then pain shoots through me. Some days, I wake up and everything is fine. Other days, I wake up and look like Quasimodo.
I'm finding that wine helps. I like wine.
Have you tried Mother's Little Helper?
But seriously, that sounds like sheer hell. Sorry, babe.
I still get the channel's confused. I'd like to say it's because I moved, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it would be confusing even if I still lived there. Here in Tucson, 4 is NBC, 9 is ABC and CBS is 13, which is weird to me, but whatever :). I remember what a hullaballoo that all was when they switched! Has it really been that long? Wow.
Hope your shoulder feels better soon! My massage therapist calls me shoulders and neck the bane of her existence. Nice, huh?
